Moving Wall Information
I was shortlisted to design an artwork for a large window for a new residential building beside the Thames. There are nine panels, each measuring 1.5 x 4 metres.
The windows have a solid screen 20cms behind the glass to conceal a plant room. As the panels are next to a walkway I planned to create a piece that would move and as people passed by. Moire is an old French word meaning "watered", it is applied to a method of weaving that produces an undulating shimmering surface. I began experimenting with ways to animate lines to connect the work to the river, to its historical use as a meadow and also making reference to the forthcoming neighbours, the Royal Academy of Dance.
